Submitted by: Sue R (Daughter of Resident) Publication Date: 28 Mar 2018 Review: The Old Hall proved to be an excellent place for mum to spend the last 15 months of her life. The care was consistent of a high standard, with all the staff seemingly committed and hard working. It was efficiently organised and well led and staff seemed well trained and capable. We felt quite reassured that mum was well looked after by carers who were good humoured, kind and patient. The Old Hall is a lovely old building and while it may not have all the facilities of a purpose-built home, it was safe and well decorated and comfortable throughout. There was always a warm and homely atmosphere, with a range of activities going on to enhance the residents’ quality of life, and the garden outside was lovely. The home seemed well supported by outside agencies, such as district nurses, Marie Curie nurses and the close by GP practice. There was good communication with the family and we were always welcomed and well looked after. We could not have wished for a better care home for mum.

Since my mother-in-law was admitted after a stay in hospital due to a fall she has been so well looked after. Nothing is too much for the staff in relation to her well-being including the fact that she only likes brown bread! The staff are also very welcoming of visitors. Since my mother-in-law has been here which has only been two weeks, she has come on in leaps and bound in her recovery. Thank you. How likely would you be to recommend The Old Hall? The home is lovely and clean. Staff very friendly. There is no unpleasant smell when you walk in mum is very well cared for. She is very happy here. The home is "home from home". The care that my grandad received was outstanding. He was able to call The Old Hall and also the staff became family. I couldn't have asked my grandad to have spent his last few years anywhere else. The Old Hall is an outstanding care home and my Mother-in-law has been a resident for 2 and a half years. She is very happy here and the care is exceptional. This is all down to the leadership of the home and the continual training of staff (which they all respond to with enthusiasm). This results in care with a very human face based on the philosophy that the residents do not live in a workplace, but that staff work in their home. Staff are exceptionally well trained and look after my mother-in-law with the highest degree of professionalism. Following a fall, my mother-n-law had to be admitted to hospital, and the staff at the care home liaised closely with the nursing staff at the hospital. I cannot praise them enough. I feel that my mother-in-law, demanding as she is, is receiving the best care possible.

Extremely LIKELY Review: The standard of care is exceptional with a very homely atmosphere, one of the very best care homes I have found. Everything is shown upfront without exception and no appointment is required to look around. Nothing is too much trouble, the excellent staff at this home are of top quality and caring. A brilliant team that made the home. All residents are kept clean and tidy and given attention and listened to. Meals are excellent, if anybody didn't like a meal, a different meal is provided, the experience of this home in my opinion is 5 star. Small homes are the best, larger homes cannot compete with calling everyone by their name, and knowing their needs. Sets a standard for others to follow, god bless them all.

She is getting her medication on times which has helped. She is clean and tidy. She really likes it in there. The stuff are so friendly and caring. They treat my mum with respect. He was a cheeky chap who loved to converse about old times and had many a story to tell which the staff welcomed. They encouraged him to continue as he was always happy and frequently told me on my visits how certain members of staff made his day. They always looked after him well and gave no cause for complaints. They would hold special events which he would always look forward to and with each visit I would also see this with my own eyes they also made myself and my parents very welcome on each visit. The care quality is excellent and not only that the staff are very pleasant warming and friendly right up until a resident is no longer with them, of which sadly my granddad was one of those residents not so long ago. I would highly recommend them to anyone who would like to receive the best for their family resident and when I am at that stage of my life and need care I would hope my daughter would reside me there.

All these aspects were always professionally managed by the staff who made his last year considerably more pleasant than it would otherwise have been. His passing was treated with great sensitivity and the support given to my father and his family (who were present) was outstanding. Under the present management I would unreservedly recommend The Old Hall.

Alison B (Niece of resident) Thursday 21 August 2014 The Old Hall Billingborough is most welcoming for resident and visitors, it is beautifully clean, no smells, resident have first class attention from staff, the activities are excellent and varied - from community singing to reptiles visiting. The rooms are bright and well cleaned, food is excellent and menu varied, meals are taken in rooms or in dining room. Residents select what they want for breakfast, boiled eggs, scrabbled eggs, porridge etc - no set menu.

The staff worked so hard to meet all his needs, the manager even stayed after working hours to prevent him becoming overly anxious. Even though dad became very time consuming everyone rose to the challenge. They have worked with the GP, CPN and health team, and staff have had specialist training to help him. Now, despite having dementia and many physical problems, my dad is happy and settled, he relates well to the staff. We are so grateful to all at 'The Old Hall' for getting the best out of dad.

I have worked in Healthcare for the last 25 years and still do in Nottinghamshire but I've never been in such a lovely home like the Old Hall.

The Old Hall became her home and the staff her extended family. The care she received was excellent. The Old Hall is a grand building with beautiful grounds and it allowed her to stay in the village she had known all her life and to remain part of the community. As a family we were welcome any time and included in all aspects of her care and were actively involved in decision making. We would recommend the home to anyone.

He was not very receptive to the idea of any care home but he agreed to try this one after we showed him pictures and the recommendations that this one had received. He only agreed to a week's trial at first but after the first week had passed he had already settled in and a smile which had not been seen for too long, appeared on his face again. He is always commenting on how good the whole team is in the old hall, how professional they are, and above all how happy they make him feel, and in my opinion it's what my granddad thinks of the place that is the most important thing for me.

The interior of the home is tastefully decorated and has an 'old world charm' atmosphere. The garden which is walled is a nice place to be during the summer months. My mothers room was always kept clean as was the rest of the building. Altogether I was very satisfied that my mother was being looked after in a clean, caring environment by dedicated people.

Mentally, it was because he didn’t have anyone on a daily bases to talk over his problems with. Physically he was emaciated as he was not eating a proper balance diet. Within a short space of time due to the care and friendliness of the staff, he often tells me that he hasn’t got a care in the World. Physically he looks a different man. His face has filled out and he has put on weight. This is due to the wholesome food he is now enjoying. All the members of staff who he now calls his friends, have given him a new lease on life. Visitors are always made most welcome. His room is very homely and is clean and comfortable The home is a lovely building in very nice grounds surrounded by a peaceful and charming village. My stepfather wishes he had moved there years ago. I would like to thank all the staff for the help and affection they have shown him. I do not hesitate in highly recommending this care home. I am very impressed at how well the staff care for his every need, in a clean and comfortable environment. His room is lovely, and has been allowed to take all of his pictures and furniture with him, so he is surrounded by things he is familiar with and likes. They also have 2 activities people that help him do things he enjoys, and help to keep him in close touch with his friends and family by helping him to use his phone, and also to write letters. They have also taken him to the pub for lunch, and wheel him to the shop, or for walks in the garden. The care staff are very knowlegable, and keep us informed about all of his care. We also helped the manager when she made his care plan that the carers use to care for grandad. When we visit, the staff always offer us food and drink, and we have also sat and ate meals with him. After just 10 days, as a result of the friendliness of all the staff and the excellent care he is receiving, he asked if he could be and has now become a permanent resident. During my visits I have been particularly impressed by how all residents are treated with every inch of respect, dignity and as individuals. From my father-in-laws perspective, he is encouraged to be as independent as he possibly can but also with a loving helping hand when ever needed. A beautiful Old Hall set in lovely grounds for all to enjoy, rooms made homely with his own personal things, it certainly is made to feel like home from home. I had looked round and met the staff who were all very nice. My mother was in the care of The Old Hall until she passed away this June at 95 years old. She was at The Old Hall 20 months and had the best care I could have wished for. Not one bed sore in all that time. I would recommend The Old Hall and mark it 10 out of 10. Keep up the good work. He needed full time care following the operation. Whilst as a family we visit as much as possible the staff at the home have become his second family.
